New advocacy positions at the Office of the Guardian

The Guardian will appoint two new advocates with a focus on Aboriginal children and children with disabilities respectively as recommended in the report of the Children in State Care Commission of Inquiry.  Almost one in four children in care is Aboriginal and about one in eleven has a disability and is receiving services.  The new advocates will address issues for these groups of children and young people and contribute to the other advocacy and policy work of the Office.

Are safe keeping orders the answer?

Safe keeping orders deprive the young people to whom they are applied of their liberty in the interest of protecting them and making positive changes in their lives. But are they the way to go in South Australia?  The discussion paper Safe Keeping Orders in South Australia prepared by the Office of the Guardian looks at their use interstate and overseas and poses some fundamental questions.
